Canadian Outdoor Leadership Certification Overview

The Outdoor Council of Canada has developed, and is developing, certification courses to help train and certify people to become effective leaders in outdoor settings. Currently available are:

Leadership Level 1 (Hiking) and Leadership Level 1 (Paddling): These are core certifications for entry level leaders who will be leading in non-winter environments.
Winter Leadership: This is an upgrade course that extends Leadership Level 1 (LL1) to winter environments.
Leadership Level 1 Instructor: Leadership Level 1 and upgrade modules are delivered by independent Instructors who have signed an agreement with the OCC/CCPA.

Canadian Outdoor Leadership Register

The OCC intends to build a register of Outdoor Practitioners holding certifications relating to outdoor activities. The certifications listed could be certifications delivered by other organizations, and/or certifications developed by the OCC. The following registers are currently available:

LL1 (Hiking) Register
A list of individuals who are currently certified under the LL1 (Hiking) and the LL1 (Paddling) Extension program, and are in good standing with the OCC.

LL1 (Paddling) Register
A list of individuals who are currently certified under the LL1 (Paddling) and the LL1 (Hiking) Extension program, and are in good standing with the OCC.

LL1 Module Register
A list of individuals who are currently certified under the LL1 (Hiking) and/or the LL1 (Paddling) program who have completed one or more of the LL1 Modules, and are in good standing with the OCC.

LL1 Instructor Register
A list of individuals who are currently licensed to train and certify LL1 leaders, and are in good standing with the OCC.
