This course is a certification course for leaders who wish to extend their Field Leadership certification to include overnight events. The focus is on building the skills required to plan and deliver a high-quality low-risk experience on a multi-day trip for your group in low risk outdoor environments, and on a introduction to reading and interpreting maps for practical use in the back-country. A theoretical introduction is followed by a field session.  Successful graduates will be certified as a Field Leader (Overnight)' and will be included in the National Outdoor Leaders Registry as well as adding a 'Using Maps' designation following the OCC Curriculum.

Course fee includes; instruction, student manuals (as a pdf), and one year's membership fee to the Outdoor Council of Canada.  Course fee does not include food for the weekend, and participants must bring their own outdoor gear suitable for a one night trip into the backcountry.

Please note: You are required to read the manuals and answer the quizzes in them before you come to the course. Once you have registered you will be sent an email containing a link to the manuals and quizzes.

Students will be emailed a copy of the Field Leader (Overnight) manual and Get Outside (Maps) manual and will be required to read them prior to beginning the course.

Students will be contacted by the instructor a few days before the course to make food and other arrangements.

Applicants must be certified Field Leaders and be current OCC members.

Accomodation option: For those wishing to stay overnight at Pioneer Ranch Camp, an additional $50 dollar fee can be paid that includes breakfast on Saturday morning.

***A Zoom call will be required to discuss appropriate gear on Friday Evening, May 20th from 7 to 9 pm.  The course itself starts at 9 am May 21st, 2022 and runs until 6 PM May 22nd.***

Cancellation policy: There is a $15 administration fee to cancel up to 7 days prior to the start of the course. No refund available after 7 days prior.
